Vincent and the $5 milkshake

Dude, you just spent $1500 on heroin, why are you harping on a $5 milkshake?

Never hate your enemies. It affects your judgment. -Michael Corleone

reply

Because heroin, unlike milkshake, is illegal. Furthermore, everything in this world has its worth depending upon the value you place on it. Vince was prepared to pay good money for heroin because he was, surprise surprise, addicted to it. On the other hand, he probably wasn't a regular milkshake drinker. Just like how those who love to wear bling are likely to spend their hard earned on gold jewelry, but not on other things. If you were a dude, would you be interested in purchasing overpriced ladies' underwear?

Five bucks for a milkshake is almost standard nowdays.

I never earned a nickel from another man's sweat!

Yeah, but that was a lot for a run-of-the-mill vanilla milkshake in 1994. Part of the point of that scene, IMO, is that in order to experience the nostalgic-indulgent restaurant, you'll have to pay the price.

That would be a good point if not for the fact they were in L.A where things are generally more expensive. I remember back in 2001 going to Chicago with my parents and we went to a restaurant where the cheapest thing on the menu was just a hot ham and cheese sandwich on ordinary pieces of bread with fries and that was $10. We were from a town in Southern Illinois and we thought that was kind of a bit much for that. But restaurants are generally more expensive in a big city than in a small town where I am from.

Dude, it is 23 years later and that is still a lot to pay for a milkshake. It wasn't even extra large, it was just normal size.

reply

23 years ago, when this movie was made, 5 bucks could've bought you a steak. Remember that he asks Buddy Holly/Steve Buschemi, "There's no booze in it? It's just a milkshake?" And it clearly was not a run-of-the-mill milkshake. Vincent himself said, "That's a pretty fuckin' good milkshake. I don't know if it's $5 good, but that's a pretty fuckin' good milkshake!"

5 dollar milkshakes are unfortunately the norm in this hellscape we call reality. Pulp fiction was predicting this rise of president Trump and the insatiable greed of the 1%

reply

Actually in California you can get one for that price. You have to look around.

2019 and I wouldnt pay 5 bucks for a milkshake

Okay, it's mid 2019 I just checked online and it says a large Blizzard is $4.69 which after tax is over $5.00. I would never pay that much for a large Blizzard..I go to my local grocery store and get 2 donuts for $1.08 and not only is that a fair price but they taste better anyway. I've been to Thailand where their large Blizzard's are the size of our small and they cost a little over a dollar.
Just think, you can go to the grocery store and buy a quart or two of ice cream for less than $5.00. With some milk and little else you can probably make at least 5 milkshakes for about $1.50 a pop. Compare that to getting TOTALLY RIPPED OFF by Dairy Queen at $5 a pop.

It amazes me how many people will pay it. I can go to my local Publix here in Fl and get a gallon of good premium ice cream for 6 bucks. Starbucks is another one that baffles me.

We're no longer in an obesity epidemic, it's now an obesity catastrophe. When I go to the store or mall I'm incredibly shocked and saddened. I count 8 out of 10 people that look to be obese. Yep, 80 freaking percent. I was talking to a friend about this and he said it's more like 30% and we got into a lengthy discussion about it. I said maybe 5 or 6 years ago it was 35 or 40% but think about those people, they can gain 2-5lbs. a month eating this crap. It was an aha moment, we both came to the conclusion that every month it's getting much worse. Someone who is 225 today will be 250 or more a year from now. I've seen it with my own two eyes, a friend was 238 last Nov and now he's 265. I've seen the way he eats, no shock he gained that much weight. I've also read that the overweight people are the happiest. No shit, they're constantly having a sugar high party with cakes, cookies, candy bars, coffee cakes, cola, chips, chocolate, confections, donuts, pizza, ho-ho's, and ding-dongs.
So yeah, people will pay $6 for a Blizzard, as long as they can get a large pizza for $7.99 and keep on gaining pound after pound.
What will it be like 5 years from now?
I'm single, I can't take it anymore I'm searching for jobs overseas this country has destroyed itself.
