I just saw this film the other day on HBO. Pretty good film.
I have to admit, I did not understand the anecdote pertaining to Pablo Picasso. Would someone mind explaining to me what Robert Duvall's Bernie White character was trying to convey with it? Thanks.
He was saying that in his earlier job as a globe-trotting sports writer (covering Olympics in 1968) he was able to rub elbows with world-famous celebrities like Picasso.
Picasso could take care of an $8,000 bar bill by scribbling a drawing on a napkin and giving it to the bar owner as a "Picasso original" but none of the writers could do that.
Bernie was telling Alicia that while news reporters sometimes get to hang out with famous celebrities, they still don't make the kind of money that the celebrities do.
