My thoughts on The Paper Boy...
Very underrated. Johnny was a legit creepy dude. Marc Marut did an excellent job portraying a psycho. His acting performance was downright eerie. The film definitely has that aged 90's look; but for a thriller it's really effective. It's difficult to explain...but there's such a weird build up of tension throughout the story, that it keeps you on the edge of your seat. Because the one apparent thing that you quickly learn about Johnny, is that he's never going to stop, and things are only going to get crazier.
One thing I don't find believable about the film though, is Johnny's age. According to the plot, he's supposed to be 12 years old. His intellect and personality didn't exactly strike me as being a 12 year old. For example: when the police arrest him, he starts yelling "I want a lawyer! I have rights!" I mean, come on, what kind of 12 year old would say that? I thought that last scene was kinda hilarious by the way. One minute Johnny is trying to kill Melissa and Cammie, and next minute he's lying to the cops, blaming everything on Melissa, and bragging about his rights. It was just so random.
