Was Johhny the only kid that lived in the whole neighborhood?

With the exception of Cammie, there are no other child characters in this movie. Unless you count the opening class scene. But we the audience don't even see any kids in the background of any scene that takes place in the whole neighborhood. I find it hard to believe that Johnny was the only kid who lived in the whole neighborhood. There should have been a scene in which the neighborhood kids gang up on Johnny during one of his runs and he gets roughed up, that way to show us the audience that he has no friends, not even in his own age range.

I first saw this when it first came out on video back in '94, and it is an interesting little thriller. But that one minor detail has always nagged at me.
