I never could understand why this film was so panned by critics. Granted, it is not the best movie ever made but it is far from the worse. This was one of my favorite films as a young child and I still enjoy watching it today. Not to mention, it has a great message to it.

I completely agree with you. The Pagemaster isn't the best movie ever made and doesn't try to be, but I for one am very fond of this movie and think it is terrific. The animation is a little dated but isn't so bad I've seen worse, but the music is fantastic. And I actually love the characters, especially Adventure. Patrick Stewart did a brilliant job voicing him, and Adventure and Fantasy's constant disagreements were witty. I will admit the Mr Hyde bit is quite scary, I thought so when I was a kid and still do now. I think it is a very, very good movie, with clever book references and appealing characters. I am probably the only person who finds this, but ever since I got it five weeks ago on video, I've watched it twelve times since, and it actually gets better each viewing.

I don't get it, either. I mean, it's not a fantastic movie, but it's not terrible. The animation is nice, the story is engaging, etc. It's not anything spectacular, but it's not supposed to be. It's just a nice way to kill a lazy Saturday afternoon.
The more people I meet, the more I get why Jane Goodall spends all of her time with chimps.....
