Mr. Hyde

I haven't watched this movie in years. I pulled it out and watched it just now. Suddenly these memories came flooding back to me! And I remembered that when I was little, I got really scared and dreaded the part when Mr. Hyde is covering his face and he says "My name..is Mr. HYDE!!" and when he shouts his name he uncovers his face right up close.

As a little girl that always frightened me so badly. Now that I'm older and watched it again I understood why I was afraid of him He's still a little freaky to me. It's probably the eyes.

Was anyone else really afraid of him when they were little?

I wasn't. I went, "HE'S SO COOL-LOOKING!" I was a very strange up 5-year-old. I would watch the Swan Princess, then I would go watch the Addams Family.

Oh yeah, I was terrified of him and for some reason the paint in the beginning that makes everything go animated always freaked me out too.

Oh, gosh... I just watched The Pagemaster for the first time in probably ten years, and Mr. Hyde still freaks me out, too. The eyes and the teeth... *shudder*

reply

Heh, I actually don't remember whether I was scared of him. I probably was when the movie first came out.

However, I just watched this recently and found myself laughing for quite a while at that part. I thought it was quite funny the way he exclaimed, "HYDE!!!!11one1!"

I watched it this morning for the first time in like two years and I've realised how scary Mr Hyde does look! I can't remember being scared when I was younger but I didn't like the bit when the paint is following Richard around lol

Oh and I didn't like the whale part either. When he's looking over the boat and you see the whale :O

Its like WTFOMG!

Hey was always a good movie. I also had the book and they ran into Frankenstein's monster in that. But Hyde, man he is sinister villainy at its peak mostly cos he can deceive you by being the polite gentleman, before turning into a poker-wielding psychopath! Long live Hyde!

I accidentaly pressed play at that exact spot where Fantasy is like "Dr. J?" and he's like, "my name is... HYDE!! *uncovers face*" yeah im not gonna be able to sleep tonight =)

I got kinda creeped out by it before, and after seeing this movie again after 3-5 years, I'm still kinda creeped out

Man, I had nightmares from that scene with Hyde for a month. My friends still give me crap about it, I'm so glad I wasn't the only one.

reply

Terrified. Im going to be an Israeli Commando next year and yes, I was terrified of that scene. Watched it again when I was 18 and was still a bit nervous.

I hadn't seen the movie since I was about 5, but previews on other old VHS cartoons kept it alive in my memory, especially the Mr. Hyde part. That scared me a little BUT I was really unnerved byt the paint. So I found the movie by chance about a month or two ago at my local auction sale place for a dollar and watched it again. Dr. Jekyll...you are hot.

Whenever I think about Jekyll and Hyde, that is the monster that immediatley comes to mind. He was creepy!
I watched the 40's adaptation of the novel the other day and half expected him to turn into that guy.

reply

I agree. How they animated Mr Hyde was really creepy, and his laugh gives me nightmares.

I got scared of Mr. Hyde when I was a kid. But now that I'm older I'm not so scared. Of course Mr. Hyde didn't really look that Hideous in the actual original novel.
