Why would anyone give the name of a person your sister doesn't know to a gypsy and say it's her true love. What's the point? So 15 years down the road you can get a laugh? And if Faith is so determined to find her true love what was she doing the last 15 years to find him? It seems like a lot of people knew him including her poor fiance. You think she would have asked him about Damon Bradley before she goes trotting over to Italy. All I can say is very farfetched.
It's called teasing your sister, and most brothers have it down to a science.
During the opening credits, Faith and Larry (as kids) are playing with a Ouija Board. Dreamy-eyed Faith wants to know the identity of her "true love." Larry wants to move on to the next question, so he manipulates the pointer to spell out the name of a kid he knows ... Damon Bradley. Faith is caught up in the thought of romance.
Savoring the "joke" on his sister, he "slips 2 bucks" to the Gypsy fortune teller, asking her to reinforce the belief that Damon Bradley is her "destiny." Larry forgets the whole thing. But, when Faith speaks to the real Damon Bradley on the phone, the two incidents come rushing back to her, and she has to find out if this is, indeed her "other half."
