Quick Question

I saw bits and pieces of this a long time ago, and forget if this was ever cleared up in the movie...but since the name Damon Bradley was actually the name of one of the kids brothers friends (or something like that)...was Robert Downey Jr, "that" Damon Bradley? That guy all grown up? Or just a guy with that name...

(ok, I guess tha wuzn't quick) :)

If I remember it went like this. Tomei's brother gave the gypsy the name of Faith's true love as Damon Bradley (why he would do this is anyone's guess cause she apparently didn't know him). When she gets the call 15 years later from Damon (he's a friend of her fiancee) we're never told if it's the same guy but I can't imagine a lot of people in Philly running around with that name. So I'd say it is the same guy. Downey's real name in the film is Peter Wright and he just uses Damon's name to get to know Faith. The real Damon is the curly haired guy she meets at the airport at the end.

Actually, Faith's brother (Larry) did know him. At the end of the movie when Larry comes to retrieve Kate from Italy, he says that Damon was "some jerk" he knew in school. And Damon was really they guy who was calling Faith's fiance at the beginning of the movie, and he really was the guy Faith meets in the airport at the end.

Why would anyone give the name of a person your sister doesn't know to a gypsy and say it's her true love. What's the point? So 15 years down the road you can get a laugh? And if Faith is so determined to find her true love what was she doing the last 15 years to find him? It seems like a lot of people knew him including her poor fiance. You think she would have asked him about Damon Bradley before she goes trotting over to Italy. All I can say is very farfetched.

It's called teasing your sister, and most brothers have it down to a science.

During the opening credits, Faith and Larry (as kids) are playing with a Ouija Board. Dreamy-eyed Faith wants to know the identity of her "true love." Larry wants to move on to the next question, so he manipulates the pointer to spell out the name of a kid he knows ... Damon Bradley. Faith is caught up in the thought of romance.

Savoring the "joke" on his sister, he "slips 2 bucks" to the Gypsy fortune teller, asking her to reinforce the belief that Damon Bradley is her "destiny." Larry forgets the whole thing. But, when Faith speaks to the real Damon Bradley on the phone, the two incidents come rushing back to her, and she has to find out if this is, indeed her "other half."

Robert Downey, Jr is Peter in the movie. When he first meets Faith, he pretends to be Damon Bradley because that's the man she was looking for but had never seen, and he couldn't let her get away because he'd probably never see her again. So he said "I'm Damon Bradley" even though it wasn't true. Faith learns later that evening that he is really Peter when he comes clean with her.
