So unattractive, the way Peter...

At the end of the movie, when Marissa Tomei comes on the plane to tell him that it's really him she wants, I found it SO unattractive the way he had already taken off his shoes and propped his feet up on the chair in front of him. The plane hadn't even taken off yet! And red socks? Oh man, not a romantic backdrop to the climax of the movie.

Yeah, the red socks were definitely a tribute to her, of when she originally lost her red shoe and he found it, and it led him to her. He took off his shoes once on the plane in order to see those red socks because he knew he was leaving her once and for all, and wanted to once more be reminded of her and that moment. I think at that point on the plane, he didn't care about decorum anymore--he was past that point. And also: That was how she spotted him so easily once she got on to look for him--she saw the socks first, since his back was to her. That led HER to HIM this time!

A lot of people take off their shoes once they're on the plane anyway. I didn't see anything wrong with it. If anything I thought it was pretty cute.

I completely agree. That was the first thing I thought and it took me right out of the movie. But I don't think this would have been attractive at any time in the flight. The flight attendants should have told him to take them down. (But maybe I think that because I'm a flight attendant...)

I think it was to alert the audience of where he was sitting. There were many extras on that plane & you might not see him right away. The red socks catch your attention (but I do like the answers of the other posters).

I just can't believe he had enough leg room to be able to complete that maneuver. Either that or he is really agile and flexible.

lol Cutesome, my thoughts exactly. And the red socks weren't what put me off. It was the fact that he had put his feet up. Even if his feet didn't smell, it's still unpleasant for the people sitting in front of him to have someone's feet near their face.

I only do it with superheroes.
