This movie was one of the reasons why I couldn't stand Marisa Tomei.

Or romantic comedies that get churned out on a whim, for that matter. It was made in 1994, I saw it a year later with I was eight or nine - I couldn't stand it then. I thought the idea was completely absurd. This woman drops her life, risks her relationship with her fiancee and demonstrates characteristics of some sort of mental illness just to find some man who's name is Damon Bradley. Sure, as a child, I can understand believing in this crap but, c'mon. Marisa's character is thirtysomething! Grow up, get over it already! I hate romantic comedies that leaves the woman completely incapable of thinking rationally because of some guy. I mean, she doesn't even ask for proof of ID. If I were going to trape around the world in search of a name - he better be who he says he is, geez! This movie was retarded and I feel bad for Robert Downey Jr. for even being in it.

Slim, I guess you were more grounded at 8 years old, and now, than the romantics of the world. I enjoyed the movie when it was new, and still do, but I'm an incurable romantic. I'd give anything to be grounded like you. So much more sensible. Sigh.

Of course it's absurd. Movies like this get made, because they are low-hanging fruit. There are millions of folk out there who will slurp this stuff up with a spoon every chance they get.

You realize this wasn't a documentary, right?

Generosity, that was my first mistake
