Hollywood ego gone supernova...

... I'll admit to having a good laugh at this movie (though the environmental statistics at the end are kind of sobering), but you can't deny that Seagals ego at this point in his career was ludicrously out of control. Seriously, does any of the villians even land so much as a punch on Seagal throughout the whole flick??? Can anyone else think of a Hollywood vanity project on a scale such as this???? Surely there must be thousands! Star Trek V springs to mind...

"Hudson Hawk" comes to mind, as does the entire "Billy Jack" series, which "On Deadly Ground" references/steals from quite liberally.

As an aside, I remember interviews with Seagal when "Hard to Kill" came out, and how he didn't think it was very good, and how he hoped that in the future, he'd be allowed to make the movies he wanted to make. It's absolutely terrifying to consider that he was probably thinking of something like "On Deadly Ground." So all those years of paying his dues by making bad movies paid off when he finally got to make his own, much worse, movie.

The most massively, over-indulgent vanity piece ever is Peter Jackson's King Kong!
