I don't know why it's banned in Norway but it's so heavily cut in the UK it might as well be banned here too!

Thought I was havin' trouble with my adding. It's all right now

Some funny posts here. I like the guy who said Norwegians have common sense. I think I agree with those who say it is probably far too violent and oil fields or refineries or whatever might be a touchy subject in a place like Norway. For the person who said the movie is so heavily cut in the UK it might as well be banned there as well, I wish to point out that even in the good old violent U S of A, the channel I just watched it on (for about the 10th time, I am sorry to say) cut virtually every impact shot, so we are left to imagine the killing blows.

Several violent action and horror films where banned for cinema in the 80s and mid 90's. Instead they went straight to video. So it wasn't like they weren't released. I watched on video in 95.

Recently some films has been banned from certain cinemas. Doberman was refused shown in cinema in three of the biggest cities, and I remember Kiss of the Dragon also was banned from a cinema.

In Norway you can get an automatic 18 certificate and you don't need to show it to the censor board. Also on video the distribution company often decides the rating which is the reason why 1900 is rated 11 on DVD, and for some reason Knocked Up is rated 15 on DVD, but was 11 in cinema. But if people complain the board can change the rating on DVD, and once they have even banned a film, which was Ichi The Killer. But after 2001 every banned film was lifted so a lot of zombie and cannibal films was released, together with In the realms of Sense, which even was shown on TV, and was at one point that channel most watched film, but the controversy of showing that film, made them not show I Stand Alone a week later. Also hard core porn was banned until recently, penetration and explicit sex was only allowed if there was artistic reason behind. Hardcore sex in artistic films? Yes? Hardcore sex in porn? No. But that has changed now.

So as far as I know only one film is still banned, Ichi The Killer, while all the other banned was lifted in 2001, but most where only banned in cinema, and instead released straight to video.
