On Deadly Ground sucks.
shareI don't think it really has that much to do with animals, it's about the environment in general. I think that might have been a big part of the problem; it's a left-wing film in a right-leaning genre. I don't know why something that concerns us all is said to only be relevent to those following a particular ideology, but there you go.
That, and the critics absolutely despised it.

Absolutley, I was just saying that the critics probably added to the films "failure", although it didn't do that badly in the end.

I have never taken any notice of critics, just a bunch of know-it-all in my opinion. I think they're a nasty bunch. I make up my own mind about stuff. Pity they seem to have so much power!!!
shareYeah, everybody hates critics when one disagree with them about a movie, but would have no trouble using them if they agree with one's view about a movie.
This movie sucked when I first saw it in the theater and I've never seen it again. Just the slap fight scene and the horrible dialog that went with it was enough to avoid, avoid, avoid.
Try writing a review of a film that is well written or at least coherent. I think you'll find it takes a lot of work.
shareUnfair, my ass. This movie deserves all the negative attention it gets.
shareWhat they do is very productive. They warn people about terrible movies. Somehow, idiots ignore them on this film.
shareNo, it's a pretentious ego trip.
shareYah I cannot fathom why some people despise this movie so much!! Ok so it was Seagal's first directed movie, so it ACTUALLY had some kind of moral message to it. So what?!?! God, are people so shallow and insensitive that they actually take offense to some kind of positive message in a movie? I DONT CARE ABOUT THE PLOT, as long as there is some good action in it, because THAT IS WHY WE WATCH SEAGAL MOVIES FOR GOD'S SAKE! Am I right?? So screw the people who didnt like it.
shareThe action is not good. Seagal never gets hit. There's zero suspense. It's tedious and boring. Anyone who thinks this is a good movie has an IQ of minus thirty.

That's why.
shareSeriously? You want to take an action-adventure movie seriously? Oh wait, you're asking why it failed.
Fans of action-adventure movies don't want to spend their money on movies that are preaching about a social issue to the point where the preaching overtakes the action. The action sequences in this movie don't hold a candle to those in the Seagal film prior to this, "Under Siege". Seagal's opponents didn't come close to even messing up his hair in the fight sequences. The action was not realistic.
Look at the failure of the film that followed this. "Under Siege 2: Dark Territory" also bombed at the box office. Same reasons as this except the problem of a message about the environment.
I bet this is one of the biggest regrets of Michael Caine's career. I guess he needed the money.
This movie is by no means excellent. But it gets more hate than it deserves
For a seagal movie, it's par for the course, an entertaining popcorn movie. And I hate greenpeace propaganda
