Was it disliked for not being PC or just for being a bad movie?

I saw the movie and didn't like it. But it seems a lot of the criticism was based on how ignorantly it portrays other cultures and stereotypes them. I just find that hard to believe nowadays, because going online, I can barely go any length of time without seeing people complain about political correctness and how awful and terrible it apparently is. There are other movies that are un PC which are not only successful, but even get specific praise for not being PC. If people didn't like the movie like I didn't, because they simply find it bad, then fair enough. But calling it offensive seems like an unfair criticism considering how popular offensive and mean spirited material can be, in film and elsewhere.
