shareI believe it's the female diner owner's old Mother who walks in the snow in her jammies?
shareYes, it is her and remember, no driving in the sidewalk ;-).
MM
There were also Clive Peoples Jr. .. I think it's him.
shareClive Jr. left town after the property for the amusement park deal folded. It was the owner of the diner who mother died. In one scene prior to her death Sully goes to get her out of the middle of the street with only his socks on his feet and no shoes. He returns her to the diner.
She tells Sully she going to her sister's in Albany and Sully says "I'll give you a lift and we'll get there faster." -and something about dancing which I don't remember.
------------------------- Extra Information---------------------------------
Did you know that the diner was located in Beacon, NY? I have met the owner and talked to him in person. It was actually called Tiffany's Diner and was located at 257 Main Street in the main downtown area.
Other things that were in Beacon, NY: The old house that Sully lived in as a kid was actually a brand new house at the time they filmed the movie that had been doctored up to look old by Hollywood. The interior of the house was filmed in a REAL old house down near the Iron Horse.
The Iron Horse Bar was in an old part of town (and VERY run down) located at the corner of North and Main Streets.
The shot of the waterfall in the beginning credits was across the street from the Iron Horse located behind an old mill of some kind. I took some pictures of the area and was standing on the Main Street Bridge when I shot the waterfall.
Rubs house was just up an alley (North St.) from the Iron Horse. (exterior shots)
The street that Sully's grandson drives with him on is the same street the Iron Horse is on. (Main St.)
The place where Sully and his Granson get the ice cream was actually an empty building off of I-84 in the north part of Beacon.
Dummies annex office was located 2 miles from the Iron Horse on Business Route 52/Fishkill Ave.
The houses were filmed in Poughkeepsie, NY (Ms Beryl's, Dummies, Sully's Ex-wifes)
The court scenes were also filmed in Poughkeepsie as was the hospital scene and the scene where Raymer stops Sully from driving on the sidewalk.
Filming took place in Beacon and Poughkeepsie between December 1992 and February 1993. It was the first time that the residents of Beacon and Poughkeepsie had experienced a three month holiday season in their towns and having a motion picture being filmed in Beacon.
Interesting Fact: At the time the movie was in production, there was almost no snow on the ground so the director ordered a snow storm for the locations where the movie was filmed. Thankfully for the director, the temps. were low enough to keep the snow in tact through filming.
It's amazing what you can learn in one afternoon by just talking to people who lived in Beacon, NY.! :-)
Thanks for the info!
shareJust curious?Would you consider Poughkeepsie and Beacon a nice place to live.I live in philly and see scenes in some movie and think man that part of town never looked that good.Sometimes it's just hollywood magic.
shareParts of Poughkeepsie and Beacon are not so nice but there are some nice areas too. Part of the movie was also filmed in Fishkill, NY. Off the top of my head I can think of two scenes in Fishkill. The scene were Sully is walking and his son picks him up in the car and the scene were Sully is trying to get Rub in to his truck.
He's taking the knife out of the cheese. Do you think he wants some cheese?
That's interesting...
I actually came 'here' because I live near Bath, NY and was curious if any of the filming was done there.
Here's to those who wish me well...
Thanks for the update. This is good info.
Anybody want a peanut ?

"The Iron Horse Bar was in an old part of town [Beacon] (and VERY run down) located at the corner of North and Main Streets."
No.
The "Iron Horse" was and is located in Hudson NY.
If you watch when the squad car pulls up to drop Sully off you can see a man carrying a reef that says "Beloved Hattie".
shareHattie died....Bouquets by Christine in Hopewell Junction NY did the flowers....3 times to be exact...they kept freezing so the final floral arrangements were done in artificial flowers!
shareIt was the lady in the snow, but even more interesting is that she died when Officer Raymer fired the gun at Sully's truck. The sound gave her a heart attack.
shareThey never said that specifically, did they? In the book, Hattie and her daughter consisted of an entire sub-plot. I won't post here how she died in the book.
Yes, I hate people who claim the book is better, but it's a simple fact that tons and tons of stuff need to be ripped out of a book to make a movie. This movie is not my normal thing, but I had read the book so wanted to see it. I think they did a pretty good job of abridgment.
Ah, that makes sense now. The judge mentioned something about the gunshot alarming an old woman down the street. I think he even mentioned the name.
P. Seymour Hoffman pre-megafame. Better actor than policeman.
It's Hattie -- the ribbon on the flowers says 'Dearest Hattie' -- but the gunshot did NOT cause her death; if it had, all sorts of hell would have broken loose, the Philip Seymour Hoffman cop character, Raymer, would be in jail instead of Sully, the judge and the police chief would not have handled the hearing so cavalierly, etc etc.
Hattie died of an age-related illness, probably related to her dementia. However, I do NOT think (as many do) that she died of exposure by wandering off while Sully was in jail, because that certainly would have been part of the conversation as they were carrying the coffin to the cemetery.

Next time you watch the movie and the cemetery funeral scene...Keep an eye out for the wreath that someone is carrying in the cemetery. The name across the wreath reads: "Hattie" - as is the name of the Diner I believe(?) Hattie is that women who goes walking down the snow-covered st to visit her sister in ALbany. She is also the mother of the women who runs the diner.
