Who was looking after Nell 'five years later', am I correct in thinking it was the cop and his wife and they all live in Nell's cabin? If that was the case it must have been by a court order perhaps I found that inconclusive, but I loved the movie nevertheless, it was sad to see when Nell played on the rocks with the daughter of Liam and Natasha that she still missed May so much
Well.. I reckon the good doctors lives somewhere else due to them having to drive there, and what with having a family and all. The cop+wife and other potential relatives still lived in the near by town.
I am assuming Nell looked after her self, she seemed to be able to to okey after her mother had passed away, so why not later. The court I also feel safe to assume went with Nells speech that none need worry about Nell etc etc, thus it being a 'happy ending' so to speak.
Well that's my take on it anyway. I watched this movie yesterday, I was just as taken with it as I was back in the 90s when it was first released. Great story..
I thought it was pretty clear that Nell continued living alone in her house, and the sheriff, his wife, and others visited her. I think the commentary track makes this clearer with Jodie's comment about Nell being a sort of "maiden aunt" type.
I'm pretty sure that the court decided that Nell could take care of herself, but the cop would periodically go check on her. They were all there for a birthday party at the end of the movie.
It makes sense. The court could have also ordered that Nell's property be fenced in for her protection, and if you think about it, by five years onward, the media frenzy would have calmed down anyway. As for Nell still missing May, it was very sad to see that tear in her eye in the last scene. Yet it still makes sense, since May was one of the only two people Nell knew for most of her life. Plus, there is said to be an indescribable bond between identical twins, which I can't speak to not being one myself.
The only reason the two doctors were there in the first place was to determine whether she could look after herself, whether she was a danger to herself or others. She wasn't in the end, and seeing as Nell owned half the forest, there probably was a court order preventing people from coming anywhere near her. It was probably easier to look after herself after her mother died, as it was just her. I imagine the people at the end were the locals who became her friends and company.
she was her twin sister, they were connected. my mum had a twin sister who died when she was 5 its been 53 years this year and she still feels her loss.
