Last Line of the film...

Does anyone agree it would have been funnier if he said...

PLEASE MAKE SURE ITS A BOY?

What I'm curious about is what he says to Isobelle AFTER "make sure it's a girl", as the dialogue went on for a minute or two, but the music swells too far and I can't make it out.

I think he says 'make sure it's a girl' because he has been watching Nicki with her boyfriend and knows that he is on the verge of losing her as she grows into adulthood. It is an affirmation that he has enjoyed his adventures with his daughter, and really does not want to let her go.

The acting in this film was superb, especially from Depardieu; it is all in the eyes - the scene at the end where she goes off with her boyfriend there is assent in his eyes, but also an unspoken 'do the wrong thing by my daughter and I will kill you!' It is a brilliant, hilarious film, and I cannot believe the number of people on this board who are taking it so seriously. For goodness' sake, lighten up - it is only a film, suspend your disbelief for 90 minutes and enjoy some fine acting and clever dialogue from an excellent cast.

"AFTER 'make sure it's a girl'" was what I said. The "make sure it's a girl" part was easy to hear but the music was swelling over a few other things he said, I just wondered what it was he said.
