Self Centred Bitch!

This film had me screaming at the the screen!! How can a young girl accuse her father of being a paedophile and then have him play along? It is completely sick!! If that had happened to me, I would have had Nicole admit the truth in front of everyone and tell them all why she lied about her father!

What would you do if your underage child started telling people that you were a paedophile just to impress them?????

And for her to get the guy at the end! I'm sorry but that just gives the wrong impression to youngsters - lie through your teeth, hope you dont get found out and get the person of your dreams!!

I would have liked for the self centred bitch to have caught the band player in bed with his girlfriend as another smack in the face after Ben said he didn't want anymore to do with her.

IMO Gerard Depardieu's comedic performance, the music and Dalton James are the only saving graces of this film.

I'll trade with anyone who has a jaccuzzi!!!!

I completely agree with you there! This movie is disturbing on SO many levels!

Thanks for that Emu - I was beginning to think that I was the only one who thought that way.

Really jimakros, "It's just a movie?" If that's true, then maybe they could have found another pretty teenage girl to play the part of Niki, who could, I don't know... ACT? I thought Sofia Coppola's performance (or non-performance) in "The Godfather III" was the worst acting I had ever seen in a movie, but I gotta tell you Katherine Heigl's lifeless performance in this movie had me rethinking that. A character in a movie should have some saving grace so the audience can sympathize with them. When Niki fell off that windsurfer and into the water I was hoping against hope that she wouldn't be rescued in time, but my hopes were soon dashed. I wanted to smack the crap out of her during the whole movie. Am I bad?

"Don't "yeah,yeah" me, Lois."

Personally, if she were my daughter I'd have skelped her arse and never let her out again for that. Nicky doesn't seem to realise how much of a risk she takes making up such a wild story. Not only could it have tarnished his reputation (for instance, if he was a pianist and I'm ASSUMING this is somehow his profession, this could have gotten back to his future employers and ruined his career - especially if he was in a teaching position at a musical school or anything else), but he also could have been targeted by angry parents, beaten up, killed, arrested...anything. All for the want of a fourteen year old to seem cool and sophisticated to a boy far too old for her to begin with.

Alot of teens become quite self-centred between 14-16. I felt quite sorry for Andre during the whole movie, all he tries to do is everything his daughter wants and it's never good enough. The problem is of course, Andre is a people pleaser and tries to please everyone which is why he agrees to Nicky's request...he said it himself, he would do ANYTHING for her.

I still enjoy this movie, even years later although personally I think this is a movie that these days is hard to swallow (perhaps I'm biased as I've been watching this since I was around fourteen myself!) Even if the main character ISN'T a child molester, the way the story makes light of Andre's situation would leave a bitter after taste; people don't really WANT to find something like that funny anymore because of the way paedophilia has become so much more of a bigger problem than it once was.

I would rather be described as a murderer or terrorist than a pedophile. I can't begin to imagine my daughter (any daughter!) accusing her father of something so horrendous and repugnant for whatever reason.

reply

Yeah, it was disturbing the whole "father-daughter-lover" thing.
I always felt that what the girl was doing was also putting her father in danger. (A lynch mob could have gone after him thinking that he was a pedophile.)

I can't believe how many people here took this silly movie so seriously.

As the OP said, it sends the wrong messages to young people. Any father who would let the judgment of a 14 yr. old override his common sense deserves to have his visitation rescinded. Success through lies and manipulation is not a good message for a movie to send. Although, that is the way real life seems to work. Too many people use credit to buy things they don't want, to impress people they don't like.

Katie was hot! she gets better with age like a fine wine.

I love this very funny movie and have always been a fan of Katherine Heigl, but I agree with the earlier poster, Nicole really DID need to be taught a lesson. As it happened, she got away with murder.

Nicole was intolerable, and Andre should have spanked her the moment he saw her flouncing around the pool in her tiny thong. Five minutes spent kicking and squealing over his knee would have done this spoiled brat the world of good. I wonder if Nicole would still enjoy being the centre of attention as she ran tearfully back to her room with a bottom as red as a tomato.

Sad to say, if Andre had done this, he probably WOULD have been charged with child abuse.

Totally agree!
