why do people like this so much

I'd heard this film was good, so when I saw it come on to TV last night, I watched it expecting something nice, at least something which would put me into the spirit of Christmas, but it was just awful.

The little girl did a good job, she acted well, but the story was just a *beep* I noticed Daphne from Frasier in it, but what she thought she was up to I don't know. Perhaps if she kept still and silent long enough she thought people would think she was part of the scenery and not notice she was in this dreadful film.

Richard attenborough had all the charm of a paedophile, I'm not kidding some of the looks he directed those children's way, I'd have the pitchfork out and run him out of town, the dirty man.

Elizabeth Perkins did little more than look pretty (which admittedly she is very good at) and Dylan Mc Dermott tried to act, but the story was so pathetic it needed to be shot humanely. I can only assume the original was better.

***spoiler**** look away now if you don't want to know the last line of this rubbish movie

And how is it going to sound when the kids says that Santa got her mum up the duff?

I liked it... i used 2 watch it everytime it got near christmas n i new christmas was comin... this film is basically set 4 children 2 watch. N santa didn't technically get her pregant the man did.... u trying 2 say santa just techically just made a baby in her I DONT THINK SO!

He's Santa, he can do anything. I'm not suggesting that Santa himself made her pregnant but if that baby has a white beard and fluffy hair then I'd be asking Santa for child support.

But my overall point is that even accepting that Santa made the lady pregnant (by whatever means, I don't really want the details) the story doesn't work. I'm exasperated, why couldn't they have made a better film? I'm disappointed more than anything. I'd been told this was good, and so when I saw it was on I was looking forward to a good Christmas movie. It wasn't.

If you disagree, which parts of it do you think were good?

i love the movie, namely the mara wilson parts

learn how to spell if you're going to insult a movie

reply

Err, what? What does spelling have to do with film appreciation??

And I'm slightly baffled what you think I've misspelt anyway?

oookkkayyy! I will freely admit that the minute it was implied the mum was pregnent I immediatly thought, Santa Dad! But I think the implication was just to hammer home the many magical and mystical qualities Santa has. I'm a straight guy of 22 and probably biased as I haven't seen the original. My sister was given the video tape some years ago and I really enjoyed it. Essentially this is a kids film to keep the myth of Santa alive for future generations, as so many parents don't tell their children about him. their symbol of Christmas ends up being a drunk reindeer with a ridiculously red nose!

I love the movie. My family loves the movie. We watch it every time Christmas comes around and it's amazing, in our opinions. And I don't think Santa got her pregant. Obviously, if anyone were to get her pregnant it would be Bryan. But I don't think she was pregnant at the end of the film either. That would be just too much and besides, the girl already believed because she got the house and the dad. She didn't need anymore proof.

Paige: Besides, everybody is odd in San Francisco. That's why we fit in so well!

The 1947 original was better. In fact, it's my favorite Christmas movie. If you've never seen it, do so; it's on frequently every year. The three re-makes (two for TV and this one for theaters) were lame, but the actors who played Kris were all very good.

BRING OUT SEASON THREE OF THE GREAT ONCE AND AGAIN ON DVD!
