Richard Attenborough = Best Santa portrayal ever?

I'd say so. If Edmund Gwenn could get an Oscar in the same role, I definitely think Sir Richard deserved at the very least a few nominations other than just the Saturn Awards. His performance was the heart and soul of the movie, carried the story, and made you believe that Santa truly does exist.

Definitely my favorite movie Santa and that's saying plenty. The film itself had it's lapses (particularly the usual Hughes unpleasantness) but Mr. Attenborough himself? The Kris Kringle of a moviegoing lifetime. Mr. Gwenn set the bar high, Sir Richard surpassed it. Terrific soundtrack CD, too.

Merry Christmas to all, on a particularly wintry day in sunny SoCal.

Richard wasn't bad I like him but Edmund Gwenn was the best santa

Until last night I didn't know this movie existed. I always saw Mr. Attenborough in Jurassic Park and thought he looked like Santa Clause and had a very pleasant personality, at least in that role. I was very surprised to see that I wasn't alone in thinking that apparently, and that he played Santa Clause in this movie! I wasn't disappointed. Even though I grew up with Tim Allen as Santa, I have to say, Mr. Attenborough takes the cake, in my opinion.

Richard Attenborough is a very talented man, and a decent Santa, but, as I learned at a very young age, Edmund Gwenn IS Santa Claus. So. there's no comparison.

For me, Richard Attenborough is a very close second to Edmund Gwenn.
