Just plain stupid
Why remake this? Okay - I'll give the director credit for thinking he could add something(s) new.
Unfortunately, I did not like Santa's "butt-crack" nor some of the other "original touches" (like Santa being able to give someone a "baby brother."
But why complain? Isn't that the purpose of a "Hollywood remake"? To expand the appeal of the original by modernizing a decades-old film?
But what I found just plain STUPID is that the producers did not find out ahead of time if they could use the "Macy's" brand in their movie. Instead, they had to think up some fake "highly-successful" New York department store - whose success is evidenced in the ability to hold a Thanksgiving parade!
Honestly, without that "Macy's" link to the real world, the movie is an epic fail. The use of "Macy's" is what made the original so captivating.
I fully understand Macy's refusal to be included this time around: the movie is not worthy of Macy's reputation (although I'm sure there were other reasons for the refusal).
At any rate, all other "updates" aside, I just felt the omission of Macy's made this movie just plain stupid.
"Don't call me 'honey', mac."
"Don't call me 'mac'... HONEY!"
