Just saw this (haven't seen the original!)

Before I begin, I have to state that I will watch the original before christmas eve as well. However, now I watched this and I have to say it wasn't bad at all! I like to watch movies as individual movies, not taking points away from a remake for being a remake. However, if it does follow exactly same line and copies everything, that does take points away. But this one, without seeing the original seemed good. I liked it. Had a good chritmas atmosphere and overall decent acting. 8/10 for me.

If you read some of the reviews and posts on this board, you'd think it was the 3rd worst movie in the history of cinema! But it's not, it's a lovely film, touching and heartwarming and has it's moments of humor.

I think it's a solid offering in it's own right. It's not meant to be legally realistic or a serious arthouse bait. It's good, clean, cheesy Christmassy, family fare. And in that, I think it manages to be charming and warm. And while this may get me grief, I think it packs a charm that the original lacked. The original is more iconic and probably the overall more memorable flick, and this movie does sadly sprinkle in a bit of unneeded slapstick. But I think especially with Susan and Kris, there's more of a charm to the whole thing, more magic. And in a Christmas film, that goes a long way.
