Proposal Rejection

Was anyone else horrified and brought to tears by the rejection of Bryan's proposal? First of all, Bryan is perfect and noone really deserves that sort of perfection: disturbingly beautiful, dedicated to someone else's child, a successful lawyer, a romantic stud, etc. When she essentially laughs at him I am at a loss. Yes, it is understandable that she was hurt, but what type of fool is she to turn him down? In a scenario that would make anyone else's heart stop, she is cold and hurtful. Maybe I'm just bitter it's not happening to me.

Bryan is sooo lovely! I can't believe that she would turn him down!! I agree, she must be absolutely crazy!

I feel bad for him, but I do think it's a bit odd that a guy would go out and buy a ring when they'd never really discussed marriage. It seems a bit presumptious.

I didn't like the way he proposed at all. Did he even get down on one knee? No.. He just handed her the ring box stood there while she opened it and then announced that it was an engagement ring. Gee really? There was no romantic speech or anything! I do agree that he was quite a catch, but he could have done that better.

Yes! Even my sister who was like Susan's age and thinks Clive Owen has warts and tore up my picture of Johnny Depp *admitted* that she would have married him. Her first little crush LOL...what have I done to her??

I started a thread on this called Elizabeth Perkins before I saw this one...sorry. But I must jump in and say that her rejection words are some of the harshest words I have ever seen in ANY movie.

Granted, another poster mentions that he might have jumped the gun on his proposal, and I wonder why he confused an engagement ring as a Christmas present.

Maybe she had valid reasons to say no...but to call him a fool was WAY WAY cruel.

I dislike her rejection and there's no way I'd say no to Brian myself if he proposed to me (sigh so dreamy) but I kind of see why she said no too. I just was watching this with my daughter and during that scene I realized when she sees the box and the ring she looks afraid. She's afraid because she's reminded of her failed marriage and the ex husband that ran away when she was at a fragile point in her life after just having Susan. I don't think she's really trying to seem heartless to Brian she was just scared. Brian for his part even says later: "I know, you were scared it's ok." so he knows he did wrong to do that to her without him having brought it up before.
