But I couldn't. Calling Santa a numbnuts? Accusing him of being a pedo? No, that's not cool. That's enough all by itself for me to despise this version.

Plus, it stank on ice anyway. Oh, I tried my best not to compare it to the original, I really did. But it's just too hard. The choices they made here were all wrong. There was no melting of Doris' heart here. There was no connection between Santa and Fred Gailey, or whatever the f his name was. And worst of all, there was very little interaction between Santa and the little girl, and not enough to make me believe that there was any kind of bond there. The revised ending just sucked.

I want the doctor to take your picture so I can look at you from inside as well.

The worst part? For me, there were two-- that whole awkward proposal and Dylan McDermott attempting to give her an engagement ring, was just awful. And I am sorry. As a single mom, with a successful lawyer who looks like Dylan McDermott and loves my kid standing in front of me with a big rock, I would NOT turn him down!
But the very worst part was the change in the final courtroom scene. "In God we trust"? That's how he justified there being a Santa Claus? The bags and bags of mail was much more dramatic and made more sense.

LOL! The same thought occurred to me! (and you did say "rock", correct?)

The 1994 version is the first time I saw this movie, so I was not predisposed to hating it simply because it was a remake. I saw the 1940s version several years later and LOVED it. I saw this version again last night but I just can't like it.

Yes, I said "rock", lol. And the icing on the cake was not only did he love her kid, Susan adored him too! Believe me, that's hard to find! Nope, I would have jumped at the chance to marry him. She did eventually, but boy, did she put him through the wringer first!
