Why dont you think macy's let them use there name for this remake and they let them use it in the first one?

If I remember correctly, it was because of the takeover storyline. In the movie, a rival store is trying to buy out Cole's and Macy's was going through the same thing at the time. At least, this rings a bell because I remember thinking the first time I saw the movie that this was a very minor subplot that is greatly overshadowed by the rest of the movie. I may be wrong, though, so don't hold me to it. 11 years is a long time for me to remember anything!

I remember that Macy's was in the middle of financial drama at the time this movie was in production. There was a real possibility that Macy's would have been liquidated by the bankruptcy court by the time of the movie's release.
Also, allowing the Macy's trademark to be used in the movie could have made the resolution of the financial and legal issues even more complicated.
This was over 20 years ago now, so some of my details may be off. Today, it seems as if every other department store is a Macy's, and there seems to be one in every American mall.
