Grand Settings

Having recently seen the original 1947 version, I was struck by the commonplace settings of the film. The appartments seem a lot more down to Earth and we see a normal changing room in the store. I found this to be a much more clever way to make a film about finding the true message of Christmas amongst a cynical world where it has become all about money. I say that because it makes the magic seem more real when it is set in a world that we can all relate to.

However the remake uses grand locations or exaggerated locations, like the oak pannelled rooms around the good guys office or the tomb like office of the rival store owner. Which do you guys prefer in relation to this point?

I also happen to make amateur films, please check them out :)
