Sending Shoppers Elsewhere.....?

Why did the store bother sending customers elsewhere to buy their gifts? Couldn't they have just done price matches instead and saved the customers a trip going elsewhere?

I think the point was to get the shoppers the best possible gift.

Plus price matching was hard before the internet. Unless you had a flyer you had no proof you were credible.

As one customer said the store was putting the parents before the dollar. That means the store was showing their customers were more valuable than the money they spent.
