A Love Story?
I posted this topic titled: Have You Seen My Favorite Film in another forum, and some of the participants were a little skeptical. They seemed confused by interpretation of the film as being a love story. This is an excerpt from my original post.
This has been my favorite film for many years. During this time the film has received a lot of controversy, due to the relationship between the two main characters. Many viewers see a dark theme within the film while myself and others do not, but I will admit that this is the most unusual love story that I've ever seen. This story has been told many times and many different ways and often with similar closure. Throughout the film the story is camouflaged with action and suspense, but at its core the love interest is definitely there for all to see.
This particular story is about two people that are so different in every way, yet both living in fear and both prisoners of loneliness. One made a choice and allowed revenge to shape their life while the other was born the prisoner into the world which they live. As their story unfolds, finding redemption becomes paramount for both and in the search a love between them begins to grow as does the controversy associated with this film. What kind of love has always been the question and the answer is not an easy one, so it remains the most debated topic when discussing this film.<<<
>>> As we know most love stories are generally between two people that love each other. Leon and Mathilda were brought together by loneliness and through their experiences together a love grows between them so much so that one gives their life for the other. Their love for each other enabled them to escape their worlds of loneliness that had imprisoned them both.
Though not typical, sounds like a love story to me!
