Question for those who have watched the old Our Gang films
Did Alfalfa and Darla have a relationship in the old Hal Roach films and was it as serious as the one portrayed in this film?

Alfalfa was smitten with Darla and she usually liked him, but she also liked Butch (when she felt like dating tough guys) and Waldo (who, as in the movie, was rich and had lots of neat stuff and money for presents). She wasn't mean, exactly, but she was rather fickle, rather like Olive Oyl flirting with both Popeye and Bluto. A common theme was Alfalfa and Butch competing with one another in some contest, trying to outdo one another, until Darla finally gets fed up and leaves with Waldo.
sharewhich was totally gross. Waldo looked like he was about 20 y.o. and Darla looked about 5 or 6. (I'm exaggerating but he did look waaaaay older than the other kids).

Well, granted, Waldo was a bit older than Darla. He was born in 1929, she in 1931. However, he was younger than her other suitors: Alfalfa was 1927, Butch 1926.
I imagine the reason he looked older is that he tended to wear more mature outfits and had an 'older' face. And, of course, there were those glasses.
Didn't Spanky once try to impress her as well?
