Yeah, Avary threw that in to be edgy. It was way contrived, the guy just kept saying "Cause I'm an American, dur dur, you can't do this cause I'm an American", but then he busts out some French history? If he said something else, subtle, it would've been decent.

As much as I have loved everything Tarantino since the early 90's, and with this one branching off the Tarantino tree, I had decent expectations. Whew, was I wrong.
It is not very often that I think of a movie as stupid. This one, it fits that bill.
I agree the over-the-top ugly American cliche really broke the flow. It was more in keeping with a cheap satire or a programmer action flick ala Chuck Norris or Van Dame. In other words, that scene sucked.
