Did Buldeo get smashed or trapped in that room?

It looked like that pillar thing might have just trapped him in there, if thats the case then... damn! Imagine the pitch darkness, the claustrophobia, the slow suffocation.

The pillars stopped moving once they closed him in so I think it just trapped him there, leaving him to die by suffocation.

As a kid, I imagined that the room just kept filling up w/ sand until he died. I always felt bad for him, for some reason.
