It's hard to believe this is a Disney movie.
I don't think this should be suitable for a young audience. It has too much horror in it and strangely, it use profanity. I wonder if these were reasons why it hadn't been on the Disney Channel.

shareI don't agree.
It was shown on ABC network over the years and I believe it was on Disney Channel at some point. I know I saw it in more places then just the video tape I have.
Anyway I saw this as a youngster and didn't have any problem with the situations. The good guy wins in the end and the story is of a boy who lived amongst animals and has to learn to be a man in an India society. Sure there are moments with the snake or tiger or the main bad guy that can be seen has horror but I just saw it as cool moments. As a youngster I was quite impressed and into the whole situation. I would have no problem letting my kids or any youngster watching this. I think this is just a case of parents not letting their kids watch anything that they themselves may find problematic. Well don't underestimate kids I say. They can sometimes see things in a different way then the over protective parent may.
Sorry I just don't agree at all with your take on it. Makes me wonder if we saw the same movie here or if you are using your own views on it as an adult to judge if its worthy for a kid as you had problems watching it.
It's not that, it's just that I thought a Disney movie is suppose to be something fun to watch but this movie has a somewhat horror look at it, seeing how those people are being attacked. Also, I don't see what's so cool about those moments either, so yeah, I too wonder if we saw the same movie. Also, it was on the Disney channel years ago but not recently.
"All your base are belong to us."
oh jheez!
shareI don't remeber any significant profanity in the film. There is some mild profanity in another Disney film, The Journey of Natty Gann(1985). Natty says "s--t" once and her father says something to the effect of "maybe she wasn't on your g--d--- train". That's so mild compared to other films I've seen. If there is any real horror in The Jungle Book, it is how much less civilized the men were than the animals.

It was a little disturbing for me as a kid but my parents never sugar-coated me (thank God) so I got over it. I still think it is a wonderful movie that kids should be able to watch.
shareI seen this movie when I was like 5 or 6. I loved it and I have it on VHS and still watch it. Yeah I do agree that there was some distrubing things in it but you know good and well if you are the jungle like that it isn't gonna be lola land! I wish they showed it on disney. Have you all noticed they do not show the older disney movies like they used to and they have changed disney channel alot. I think it is for the bad though. They should show some older movies on there cause the kids now can enjoy them. I'm glad they showed the good movies when I was a kid!

shareToo many other posts to read, so forgive me if I'm just repeating this... but it WAS on the Disney Channel, but as far as I know the last time it was on was like 1995 or 1996, so I'm sure there were other times after that, too. As for horror, I can't see why there was horror. The only part that made me upset as a kid was when Mowgli thinks Shere Khan killed Baloo, in the bit with the vultures... but apart from that I think the film had no unsuitable scenes for kids!
sharesaw the movie when it first came out on video (it was in '94 or '95, so I was about eight or nine). The two scenes that scared the hell outta me (probably why I never liked the movie) when the scene (or scenes) with the quicksand and the scene when Cary Elwes (until recently, I had no idea he was in the movie) was killed at the end. I never thought it was suitable for kids.

I agree with the 2nd post, by Mrogers1... sometimes what the ADULT sees as unsuitable won't necessarily upset kids... the film "Labyrinth" caused no problems for me as a kid, its NOW when I watch it as an older teenager that I notice all the subtle innuendos and dark aspects.
shareI saw this as a kid and the only thing I can remember that irked me was the weapon which the hunter had that was capable of extending itself to tear up a heart.
I hope it's the right movie, but that's the only thing I can remember.
A lot of you mentioning things come off as pansy ninnies, people get kicked in the balls all the time in childrens movies.
Yeh that knife's from the movie
shareYeah, that creeped me out, too, impropriety! :-D But otherwise I loved that movie and didn't find it too scary. I was only 7 or 8 or so--and I had *such* a crush on Mowgli. :-D

It was sand, not salt, but STILL, OW! And I think it's a tie between suffocating in the booby trap and drowning whilst being attacked by the snake for me for number one.
I think "Captain Planet" is something that should be mandatory to watch nowadays.
Team Jacob!
What movie company do you think this is from?
sharei have to disagree with u bamm1. considnering some of the movies kids can see now a days, some with a G rating, i dont think this movie has much violance in it at all. i dont remember any profanity in it either, but that could be my bad memory. the Disney Channel has been changing a lot of things recently.. for the bad i think.. its catering to the annoying few who r to scared to let there kids see things that might scare there kids and show them that the world isnt always gumdrops and bubble gum. kids r being held back in so many ways and then people wodner why so many kids freak out once they get to the teen age years. if you over shelter kids they will not grow up to be the nice adaptable people you think they will be. but thats my opinion.

family friendly yes, but that does NOT mean it cant have violence and "horror" in it. i DID watch this movie over and over as a kid, neither i or my parents had any problem with it.
this movie takes place when engalnd, brittian... which ever u wanna call it was ruleing france, its not currenent and im sure then, the time period its set, you could die many of these ways. old booby traps in the jungle, animals, getting pushing/kicked off a cliff.
i think your giving kids less then they deserve, most kids are not bothered by stuff like that, only parents and adults who have nothing better to do are.

wow...are you guys kidding me? this movie is fantastic and doesn't have even the remotest "horror" look about it. mild violence is not new to disney by any means. also, the "d-word" is not profanity. this has been one of my favorites since i first saw it as a kid. i didn't find it at all disturbing, but enthralling and beautiful and moving and exciting. it's only pg and reasonably so. i wouldn't let a five-year-old watch it, but about ten and up, no problem. this is a brilliant and underrated film.
shareOne of my favorites to when I saw this back when I was about 6.
You are not prepared. Illidan Stormrage
The D word IS profanity. Mild profanity, but profanity just the same.

There's a red-thingy moving toward the green-thingy. I think we're the green-thingy.
I was 6 when I first saw this movie and I loved it at the time. I forgot all about it until I came across it at someone's house on Thanksgiving this year. They put it on to entertain the toddler who was running around. I do remember the guy who was buried in salt had quite a nasty death for a kids movie, but because of the serious action scenes with somewhat gruesome deaths I liked this a lot when I was younger. It felt more mature and exciting than the typical action from a children's movie.

I remember seeing this in theaters when it came out and I was around 5 and I wasn't really bothered by any of the death scenes except the quick sand scene. That scene was really unexpected the first time I saw it and I never even knew quick sand existed. Honestly I don't think the film is that bad I mean it is rated PG, Parental Guidance, and all the death scenes mostly involve bad characters. I think some parents are just too overprotected these days. I feel in the 90s Disney used to make more mature live action movies that could be enjoyed by all age groups like this one, such a shame they don't anymore. I think it's a pretty good kids movie with a good storyline and acting which you don't always get with kids movies and it was always a favorite me and my moms. Such a shame it isn't as well known today it still holds up pretty well today.
shareI'm personally glad that they don't do mature live action movies like they use to in the 90s. They meant for those movies to be for kids but they just go too far at times (Jungle Book, Jungle 2 Jungle, Blank Check). Disney has always been known to make many family friendly movies and cartoons and that's what many people expect to see so seeing them do those live action movies does seem kind of awkward. They could let Touchstone or Hollywood Pictures handle stuff like that. That's why I said it's hard to believe this is a Disney movie, because for a while, I didn't even think it was until I saw the box cover.
I still don't think this should be recommended for kids. If we're talking family friendly live-action jungle movies by Disney, then I'd say George of the Jungle is a much better choice.
Knawmean?!
