Why is THIS in the 'Goofs' section?

The last entry in the goofs section is this:

--------When the crossword editor asks about "a six letter word for a condition of the hypothalamus", Amy replies with "goiter". A goiter is a condition of the thyroid, not the hypothalamus. Also, the editor asks for a three letter word for a flightless bird, Amy answers "Gnu". A gnu is also known as a wildebeest, a four legged antelope from Africa. An emu is the flightless bird.-------

Don't they realize that before that scene is over, Amy actually says "or maybe it's an Emu?" Hello? Maybe they should watch the entire scene before they add it to the mistake sections!

Yes, and that's why it says:

"Errors made by characters (possibly deliberate errors by the filmmakers)"

...or, maybe this has recently been changed, after you posted your message....

What confused me about that crossword scene is this. The guy had that big puzzle laid out on the board, so if he worked at the newspaper...it's very likely he should be doing one of two things--constructing a puzzle, or coming up with clues for the answers another puzzle constructor had come up with.

He was sitting there asking for answers, like he was solving it, and that makes no sense.

Right? Or am I missing something???

I don't remember the details of the scene, but it's possible he was "test-solving" it for himself or someone else...

I think the twist is meant to be humorous. He already has the answers, because he is putting the answers in himself. But there he is asking people for the answers using the corresponding clues. I find it amusing, if not confusing.

I suppose he could be unsure if his clue is accurate, so he uses Amy's knowledge as a sounding board rather than look up each word in a dictionary. Or maybe he wants to rule out the possibility of there being more than one answer. I still like the scene, regardless of their intent. It's clever in a trippy kind of way.

I suppose another explanation would be that he is doing someone else's crossword puzzle on the side, possibly using his own design board rather than filling it in on paper, and needs help.

These aren't "mistakes." It was scripted that way on purpose to give some insight into the way Amy thinks.
