Best suicide on film?

I think so.

The mass-suicide-by-sword in the end of Life Of Brian?

Totally the best suicide. I also love the suicides faked in Harold and Maud and the failed attempts in Better off dead

Talking of failed suicides, how about The Tenant? A spectacle if ever there was one.

True. Polanski--while hit-or-miss as a director--is a surprisingly solid actor. I haven't seen The Tenant in years (since before I really started getting into film), so I think it's worth a re-watch.

Talking of "misses", I really don´t know if I should recommend Che? or not. It´s one of the most bizarre films I´ve ever seen - but it´s also mind-bendingly bad. Sometimes Polanski reminds me of Mel Brooks in the sense that when his humour´s off, it´s so off it makes one wonder how on earth did this guy ever do anything remotely funny or worthwhile. Dance Of The Vampires isn´t exactly picnic either in these regards... although it´s at least passable. Tenant however is awesome (I guess the fact that Ebert gave it a 1/4 rating might be encouraging to you).

In terms of epicly filmed? Yeah, I'd give it that. There's been no other 'plunge from a great height' quite like it captured on film.

But for sadness? Gotta give it to Brooks in Shawshank.

And for hilarity? The multiple attempts in Groundhog Day have to take it.
