This Was A Freakin Cartoon

I was expecting something a little more serious.

It reminded me of The Spirit.

Which isn't a good thing...

There's no mystery to the film, it was released 16 years ago. If you can't be bothered to read even a brief synopsis, and if you have no knowledge of the Coens' films, then be it on your own head.

I clicked this thinking "Oh, he thought the same way" but unlike you to me calling it a cartoon isn't a bad thing! I loved how cartoony it got, and how it gradually degraded into something darker as Norville himself degraded. Then when things get better sudden Charles Durning shows up in the goofiest angel costume you could think of! It was great!

I loved how cartoony this movie was. had it been the same movie, but with a serious tone, I can't imagine how it could have been as interesting.

reply

I love it to be honest, the only complaint I have is that it didn't feel 1958 enough, felt too much post war 1948, but other than that its a near perfect movie.

reply

What makes you think it can't be both?

reply

This move reminded me of classic-era Simpsons, and I mean that in the best way possible.

I had a bit of a problem with the ending (which was also very cartoonish, but in a non-Simpsons way), but other than that I thought that this was a very good movie.

Literally speaking, though, it ISN'T a cartoon.

The knack to flying lies in learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss.

reply

You need to watch some screwball comedies from the 30's. THAT'S what the Coen bros were going for.
