Tim Robbins and The Coen Brothers

Given the fact the Coen Brothers often like working with the same actors I'm a bit surprised they've only worked with Tim Robbins in one film. Although I suppose there are regulars (Buscemi, McDormand, Turturro) and a few one-offs along the way (Hanks, Pitt) - so I guess this isn't all that unusual. I just thought it was a bit weird becuase of how ideally suited Robbins is to playing the quirky characters they like to create.

I can only guess that their working relationship wasn't exactly all that it should be. Can anybody shed any light?

I am kind of curious about that myself. Norville is such a great character. It seems a shame they never used Robbins in anything else.. or Paul Newman for that matter.

Newman`s a very, very expensive commodity.

Newman doesn't do much and Robbins is great but they probably didn't have the right character for him again, so far. If something bad happened between them the story probably would have gotten out.

reply

Yeah, I agree with this. It might not be that they didn't want to work with him it's just that they haven't made anything with a character that they think he would be great for, especially now that he is doing most dramas now.

reply

I agree that Newman doesn't do much, but he does great with the little he does do.
