2nd worst coens movie,
The man who wasn't there being the first.
I love the coens but hudsucker was just a derivative mish mash

For being a 30 year old and having gone through their whole catalog, I enjoyed Hudsucker a LOT more than I expected.
Big Lebowski, No Country for Old Men, and Raising Arizona are the three most entertaining movies I've ever come across that are so well done in their catalog. For a top 5, I'd do Miller's Crossing and Fargo. But their worst? Not to me.
I really can't put an exact order to where the worst of their movies vs the better. I would say Hail Caesar! is the low point in their catalog (mainly because the movie has to be taken in a very particular context to be "gotten" or understood; otherwise, the movie to its resolution didn't feel all there). As a movie, it was mildly entertaining, but in terms of a general story, someone who watches it won't be able to go "oh, that's why all this happened". It's the story of Christ cleverly segued into 50s Hollywood (where by coincidence, they are doing a Christ production). If you don't have that element to go on when you see the movie, it won't make sense.
But with Hudsucker? It's definitely somewhere in the middle. Not their best or worst, but it's pretty darn entertaining and understandable.
TMWWT is brilliant.
'Then' and 'than' are different words - stop confusing them.
I have a love hate relationship with this movie.
Every time I try to write a simple favorable review...
I have to give up because I can not wrangle any fitting cohesiveness out from the subsequent wall O' text. And I give up in frustration cuz I simply do not have the time for what should ultimately be a course of study anyway?
There is too much wonderful depth to this movie to be contained with any Justice without committing the coverage into a volume of critical survey? As many times as I have seen this movie on VHS alone, I am perty well confident that my love for the film will easily survive endless screening and It is a testament to any film that is well worn...
That one can find something new with every go round. ( what comes around :) )
Easily the Coen's stratagem. fun multifaceted motifs!
Their underrated masterpiece!
For anyone who might have doubts. I would suggest finding a copy of the brilliant script.
Where the comedic genius is plainly ( and hilariously ) easy to see in black and white.
Providing insight into the comedic timing written into the movie before the first light is even struck!
For added perspective check out Joel Silvers Unbelievable forward included in the script for a sinister bit of perplexing Hollywood cynicism.
TMWWT is a hundred times better than this crap.
shareSaw The Hudsucker Proxy for the first time last night. As with all Coen Bros films - without exception - I'd need to give it another chance before I pass judgement over it.
One of the many interesting things about the Coen's is not only are they 'not for everyone' overall, but even among fans their films generate disagreement. Some people say they hated Burn After Reading, yet for me, it's probably in my top 5 of their films. Many people say they liked O Brother, Where Art Thou, yet I HATED it.
Leaving out The Hudsucker Proxy and A Serious Man (which I have also seen only once)...
Bottom 4:
The Ladykillers
O Brother, Where Art Thou
Inside Llewyn Davis
Intolerable Cruelty
Top 4:
Fargo
No Country For Old Men
Miller's Crossing
Burn After Reading
Never defend crap with 'It's just a movie'
