Open Your Eyes America

I saw this film back in 1994 when it came out. It is a great film and a TRUE documentary that doesn't preach to people but shows us what life is like in America for poor but talented black kids in Chicago.

The fact that neither made it to the pro's but that they did both get to go to college should serve as an example of what's possible and what's required to do so. I applaud both William Gates and Arthur Agee for their efforts and their results.

It's hard to say really what white people should do after watching this film.

To me, this film should enlighten those that are priviliged to do more to help our fellow americans that are living in poverty. When you hear about all the money that is spent on the war trying to help Iraqi people, it makes me sad that in 12 years we have done very little for our own people.

What progress will America make in the next 12 years to help our poor and the quality of life of our people?

There are also white kids without fathers and in poverty as well..But I agree with what you have to say. Sometimes all a person needs to succeed is a little help and encouragement.

I don;t see it as a black-white thing. I see it as a generational thing. Immigrants and minorities have historically faced the most prejudeice in America. Unfortunately, most born into poverty are doomed to repeat it. Those that rise above need to be celebrated and endorsed.
