I knew they were the same age and went to St. Joe's together, but of course Gates went straight to Varsity while Agee was put on the freshman squad. I don't think the film showed any interaction or communication between them at all until their senior year at Gates final game? They seemed pretty close. Any idea why the filmmakers didn't provide any footage or mention anything of their relationship?
shareI think the film wanted to focus more on their basketball careers, and the individual struggles of their families.
They were both Freshman at St. Joe's at the same time, I'm pretty sure they had most(if not all) of their classes together. They were probably pretty good friends.
Remember when Arthur went back to St. Joe's for the game, a lot of the students still knew who he was, and were friends with him. But the film IMO was going for the divergent angle of the two, then in the end they come full circle in a way to supporting each other...
