Rewatching this for a third time and something sticks out to me. After Williams's knee injury takes him off the court, his grades subsequently dip. A few possibilities.
1. He is depressed from the injury and not motivated to study
2. He had help/his grades were skewed when he was performing well on the court.
3. Pure coincidence

Both could have been possibilities.. Granted grades being skewed are not as common in HS level as it is in college to keep athletes eligible.. Usually a curriculum in HS is much easier to manage while indulging in extra circulars as those said activities probably require less hours. In college they expect you to train more, while even the general majors can give students problems such as Math requirements and the like.
