Movie mistake I've never noticed before

In the beginning of the movie when Gerald and his friend get out of school for the summer Gerry misses the bus. On the side of the bus it says "East Henderson High School." I thought Gerry was only 11 years old (Garner, Gerald age 11 141 pounds according to Tony Perkins in his final rant at the camp) which would put him in the 6th/7th grade. I have seen this movie about 100 times and never caught this mistake. I do have to say that this is one of my personal favorites. It's a funny and very quotable movie. Check out Lars in "Revenge Of The Nerds II Nerds In Paradise" for another classic role by Tom Hodges! Did any one else catch any other movie mistakes in Heavyweights?

Where im from middle and high school students ride the same bus.

When I was 11, I was in 6th grade and I rode the middle school bus to the high school, where the middle school was. I guess it depends on the school district, but at some schools here, middle school starts at 6th grade.

I had noticed that, too, and wondered. Where I come from, busses do not belong to a specific school, but the county. The same busses take elementary, middle, and high school kids all at different times.

I think the bigger mistake was the mountains in the background of Jerry's neighborhood. I didn't think Long Island has mountains.

Some times the high school and middle school are at the same location. Just one big school. Different buildings but on the same lot of land. I'd just assume it was this type of school. Also as others have said. High school kids do often have to ride the bus with middle schoolers. The one and only time I had to ride the bus in high school I sat with a bunch of 7 year olds.

How about Pat being at the camp for 18 years, and stating earlier that he started going there when he was 10. So technically Pat's character is 28. What the hell? 38 maybe sure, but 28 was an interesting number for them to come up with...

Its entirely possible that Jerry was intellectually gifted and was infact attending the high school. Its actually quite likely that Jerry was even a teacher at the high school, based on the high level of intellect that he displays throughout the movie. This is alluded to in the letter he writes his grandma, when he says something like "war is hell". This is a highly advanced line for an 11 year old to have, and to me solidifies Jerry's status as one of the most powerful minds of fat camp.
