wouldn't Tony risk jail time?

Love this film, but some things have had me wondering. Couldn't Tony have been in violation of several laws and regulations?

1)He's running them through strenuous physical activities (softball, running in the rain, long hiking) the campers could hardly do.
2) Instead of sending the camper's mail out, he keeps the letters (probably because he knows what he's doing is wrong and doesn't want the campers' parents to know). He opens the letters without the sender/recipient consent. That's mail fraud.

reply

You are right. He would be charged with endangering the welfare of children as well as mail fraud.

Furthermore, everyone involved in the kidnapping of Tony would've been in serious trouble! Legally the way to go would have been to have called the cops the minute they captured him.

reply

Well the activity depends. All of those activities while not "nice" for the kids is all still perfectly legal. It's simply his responsibility to not knowingly push these kids to serious injury.

I love this movie as is, but I wonder what it would have been like if they had gone the legal route.

Nobody said he was a good guy....
