Regarding the dog...

It just crossed me that the dog can be used as a metaphor for Fresh's situation. They are, following the death of Chuckie, both turned stray and left to their own devices in a dog-eat-dog world. A harsh life and death is inevitable in such an environment; Fresh is aware of this, thus he puts the dog down. Facing the dog's corpse, he's overwhelmed with a feeling of uncertainty and loss of hope, and he's left with a question, if his fate will be different. Thoughts?

Fresh is a little prick for killing the dog that way. He could have just shot it in the head first of all.

And why did he need to kill the dog anyways? Who knows if the dog would have eventually been killed if let loose. At least the dog would have more of a shot than fresh gave it.

What an insensitive little prick.

Step 1. Train a dog to fight, Step 2. Let it fight, taste the blood of, and kill another dog, Step 3. Let it loose on the streets... You don't see a problem with that? Chuckie was holding the dog at his place but when he died Fresh had no where to keep it. So the only option is to put it down. Also, I think he hanged it so he could shoot it easier, maybe practice firing a gun in case he needed to use one for what he had planned. Keep in mind, the dog wouldn't suffer too much and would still be able to breath a little bit (a dog's neck isn't the same as a human's).
Also, he did give the dog a shot... He gave it three.

It should also be noted that this was one of the few scenes of on screen violence. Most of the other scenes would cut away to Fresh's reaction and linger on the after math.

Lol posted this twice. Boo hoo.

I remember I watched this movie when I was around 12 and I couldn't take that scene of the dog off of my mind. I still can't understand why he had to kill the dog. I thought he did that because he didn't want that the dog continuous with the same life of fighting but even though, it still has other ways to not let that happened without killing the poor animal!
