Movies like this one?

Saw this last night and it blew me away. Naturally funny, refreshingly un-formulaic, great one liners. Hugh Grant is the king of British situational wit and humor.

Can anyone suggest a movie that matches or tops this one in terms of good writing, good acting, and having a good ending?

I think the obvious one is Notting Hill written by Richard Curtis, which sees Hugh Grant kind of playing a similar sort of role again with an American leading lady in a different type of story, but with a strong rom-com feel. Like 4 Weddings the support cast also see a lot of screen time.🐭

Having thought about this movie some, it is not so much un-formulaic as that Richard Curtis is quite deliberately playing with the formulas. The most prominent example is that the typical male role in a Romantic Comedy is taken by Carrie and the typical female role by Charles. This confuses a number of people who expect a normal Romantic Comedy heroine and dislike Carrie because she is not what they want.I think that FWF is full of Romantic Comedy clichés, but they are used with a twist, in an unconventional way, and so they are not obvious. It is an immensely clever movie.I would suggest The Lady Eve. It is a different movie, and it has a level of strong emotion that is unusual in a comedy, but it is a great movie and has, for me, one of the best endings ever.P. S. On reflection, The Importance of Being Earnest (1952) may be more what you are looking for. Note the date. Not the later one.

I was surprised no one suggested Bridget Jones's Diary.

Death at a Funeral (the British version)

About a Boy - I think this one is Grant's best work.

Not a film but the tv series "Last Tango in Halifax" has a lot of Brit wit, humor, and good writing/acting.

I've been a fan of Richard Curtis' writing since the various Black Adder series from the 1980s, and The Vicar of Dibley series from the 1990s and the 2000s.
You might enjoy seeing his earlier work written for TV.

A more recent movie that he has written is "About Time" ~~~ http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2194499/?ref_=nm_flmg_wr_4.

Also, I was surprised (and delighted) to discover that he wrote one of the best Dr. Who episodes called "Vincent and the Doctor."

Thank you for reminding me about "Peter's Friends." I have seen it but it was awhile ago, so I'd love to see it again. (But instead of "The Big Sleep" ~~ Humphrey Bogart as "Phillip Marlowe" and Lauren Bacall ~~ I'll bet you meant "The Big Chill" with the really great soundtrack!)

I will definitely have to seek out "The Tall Guy" ~~ although I'm not a big fan of Jeff Goldblum, I think that Emma Thompson is wonderful, and RC's writing always delights me.

If you like Four Weddings and a Funeral, you'll probably like Notting Hill and Bridget Jones' Diary (all written by Richard Curtis). I love all 3 movies.
