I can't believe this

I loved this movie. It was really dear to me when I was growing up and I used to watch it alot. However, it didn't occur to me that half an audience would hate this movie, but I guess I thought wrong. This movie has everything in tact with the original series, along with some great story telling, direction, casting, and scenery. The only live-action cartoon movie that could possibly beat the Flinstones is the Scooby Doo movie, which I couldn't get enough of. If you guys hate this movie then no skin off my back.

Oh yeah, and as for the people who claim that the entire Flinstones series, including the movie, is going against God and the Bible, I have a little someting to tell you: It's a cartoon.

I'm going to find an awesome movie quote for my signature just you wait.

Same her joey c. I think this movie deserves atleast a 7.2 atleast.

It's below mediocre. Aside from some of the casting (Goodman as Fred) and the production design, it's a completely blown opportunity, especially given how long it took to make it to the big screen. The problem lied mostly with the screenplay; a paper thin story that may have been fine for a 30 minute episode, but couldn't sustain its 90+ minute running time.

I'm guessing that the people who are defending this movie either worked on it or were under the age of 14 when it came out.

I couldn't have said it better myself.

Having real actors perform routines from a mediocre 60s cartoon is simply a dumb idea. It was a 90s novelty at best. That anybody would feel the need to defend something like this astounds me.

reply

Mediocre in your opinion. The world doesn't revolve around your opinion, however, and others are free to have their own.

I will not argue individual taste. That's your right to not like the movie, but it's others rights to enjoy it. But if it's just a "mediocre" cartoon from the 60's then how did the show have the legs to take it into the 90's and beyond?

Flintstones was the Simpsons of it's era. It has lasted this long because it's good family entertainment. Sorry, but not every cartoon has to be offensive to be funny. Now go back to Family Guy and leave the rest of us alone.

The flinstones was definatley a good movie! My only beef with it is Rosie o'Donnel playing as Betty. As hard as it is to admit, I would have to say she is the best adapted character in the movie, and seeing as she hadn't gone mad yet, at least she was okay back before then. I'm glad to see that I'm not the only person who loves this movie, anyway!

reply

I thought it was perfectly casted

Rosie was perfect as Betty, I mean I know Betty was supposed to be stick thin like Wilma but who cares.

Rosie looked just like her and she was hilarious.

this movie was one of my childhood favorites. i think i watched it about every for 2 months when i was 5 or 6. haven't seen it since though, i'm sure i'd still like it.

reply

This is one of my favorites. I used to have this on VHS cant find it though, I know its on DVD, its on HBO right now. It sucks that it was nominated for Razzies. I think the Razzies are ridiculous! They bad mouth all my fav movies.

reply

I think it was an ok movie. The settings and stuff were pretty cool, though. The only thing I never understood was the way the characters were portrayed. Isn´t Fred supposed to be the smart one and Barney pretty dumb?

reply

The Flintstones in live-action is debatable. The sets and costumes were good and the jokes were funny. John Goodman was perfectly cast as John Goodman.

I think the real problem with this film is that The Flintstones is for children. So why does the storylines involve Embezzlement, Financial Problems, Adoption Difficulties and Office Politics? Why would children be interested in that?

reply

"I think the real problem with this film is that The Flintstones is for children."

The Flintstones was never made specifically for children, which is one of the reasons why it was a prime-time series.

I absolutely feel a need to defend this movie...this rating is atrocious. Honestly, what's so wrong with it? If you give me an answer, make sure you explain to me what's "4/10" wrong. Because something like minor errors and stuff just don't flaw a movie that much. Sorry...I just am really thrown by this. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate good movies. I mean on the caliber of No Country For Old Men, Casablanca, Rear Window, etc...I just really enjoyed this movie and think it deserves more credit than it got.

P.S.- Feel free to criticize my choice of "good movies" lol.

reply

I agree, this movie doesn't deserve such a low rating, give it a least a seven people, there are worst movies out there. I haven't seen it in years but I always enjoyed, Halle Berry was a great villianous or antihero, Fred being greedy was fun, it tested friendship and greed, and friendship won, woo.

reply

Scooby Doo was pretty cool if you can get past all those SFX. I loved the Flintstones, and I watched it at work the other day when it came on the TV. *beep* Viva Rock Vegas, tho. Won't touch that. Looks stupid.

In the end, Okonkwo threw the Cat.

reply

Scooby doo was funny, especially Matthew Lillard as Shaggy

reply

Btw , can someone explain, why and who thinks that this cartoon is again God and Bible?

I just don't understand. It's just a cartoon they rarely or never mention something about religion in any way. The only stuff that I don't get it in the original cartoon is: why they never made at least one Afro-american in the series? I know that 60-70' period was a far different from now, but is there any reason not to include any different from white characters? I am white so don't try to think that I am just some racist or something. I was just wondering.

reply

The lack of Black Characters is probably due to the extremely limited animation on the cartoons, which almost all on the four leads, besides trust me if the entire were completely politically correct you'd be bored out of your mind...

reply

i meant to say is the entire world were completely politically correct you and everyone would be bored out of their skulls.
