was this ever on DVD in the UK? WHY NOT A REMAKE?

I am sure I saw this on DVD in Britain a few years ago,but it is not available now.
Can anybody tell me if it was ever on dvd?

A linked question, does this story deserve a big budget, even Hollywood remake?
I think it does.

your too right, you know when I was Studying modern history in high school i used to think why are we solelly studying all this ww2 stuff (we only studied this period in my history class) I really thank my teacher for drilling home information about propaganda and nationalism I can see what is happening in the states now and it is concerning especially with the use terms like that of 'homeland' by the government.

Thanks I like Americans but I could never live in America, you can't spell socks.

When I mentioned a remake I meant that the original film was a low budget tv film which I am sure a lot of people did not see.
The plot was changed, much to the author's anger,in the tv film.

A big budget film with a good cast would be seen by millions,I am not suggesting a remake like so many pointless remakes made recently.

Remakes these days are over done and suck the sweaty unwashed nuts of dead monkeys. Leave it be. make something new.

I see VHS copies on Ebay and even a couple of DVD's. But the DVD's might be bootlegs. I looked at one DVD on Ebay which said although it was on DVD it was not remastered. That makes me suspicious.
