What's with the American flag in the movie?

It hasn't got 50 stars with stripes, although it has 9 stars circling 8 around a bigger one. What's this? A special occasion flag? Or did the history change and US flag has gone different?

I'm not sure, as I'm still watching this, but from the picture it seems they've just balanced the circular swastika with circular stars, and made the stripes broader to balance the thin banner shape, all the thin stripes would just blend together and look 'fuzzy'

Edit - watching a bit more, there are more 'normal' US flags flying outside the hotel Miranda Richardson (and all the Americans?) is staying in, (the scene where she thinks she's being followed after Rutger Hauer phones to set up a meeting) but again the stars & stripes seem too large/broad, but it's the classic US flag configuration.
Perhaps the flag is deliberately 'slightly off' because of the fact they are filming it next to swastikas and there are legal issues involved?
