Location of Strip Club in movie?

Anyone know the location in Toronto?

reply

I imagine the interior was a studio construction. I don't know where the exterior location is.

Im sure its east part of Church Street.

There is no "East part of Church Street"... it runs North/South.

Also, the exterior and the interior were probably not filmed at the same location.

I didn't know it at the time, but I actually walked past it when they were filming there. All I knew at the time was a movie was filming with Elias Koteas in it (I saw a chair with his name on the back as I passed by) but never even knew what movie it was until looking for it just now.

I don't remember the exact location, but it was somewhere between the hotel I was staying in (the Sheraton I think?) and either the subway or the Hard Rock Cafe because we passed them on the way back to the hotel and those were really the only places we would've been coming from that time of night.

Edited to Add:

Looking at Google Maps, Church Street is been right between the Sheraton and the Hard Rock Cafe, so that suggestion definitely jibes with my memories.

Since my previous response to this post, I have actually visited this club on several occasions. It is called For Your Eyes Only at King/Portland, downtown Toronto. The only differences are that the decor is different, stage is smaller, and touching is ok.

It was called The Party Palace. It was bright red and white building.
As it reads, it was a community multi-functional party centre.
It was on the East side of Church, half a block
North of Queen.
The EXT entrance was the back entrance off Dalhousie.
It was a five story fire trap, with no elevators, that
has since been torn down.
The set was built into the second floor ballroom and balcony.
The INT and the EXT sets are the same location.
The location is now a SUBWAY, STARBUCK'S and EXOTICA tanning salon!

Egoyan mentions on the commentary track that he gets asked frequently about where it is and has to disappoint people by telling them that it (the interiors) were all just sets they did (which had no air conditioning and were a pain to be in). He also jokes that he probably could have dropped becoming a film maker and instead just gone on to be a sleazy strip club owner for a few years.

I'm actually kind of surprised that to date no one has tried to emulate the look.

This article says the exterior is the back of a store on Mutual Street between Queen and Shuter: http://torontoist.com/2008/01/reel_toronto_an/

The strip mall where Sarah Polley lives is at 1531 O'Connor Drive.
