The father brought home sand cake one night and to this day I don't know and nobody knows what in the world Sand Cake is? Does anybody have a clue about this mystery story bought desert?

I think it is another name for pound cake. It looked like it to me.

Sand Cake, although similar, is a little different from pound cakes...
Sand cake(Sandkuchen) is a German dessert that is more like a firm sponge cake that can be found in many german markets in the big city..

sponge cake is nasty...well not really I just don't like the texture.

If sand cake is in Germany than what in the world would it be doing being available in New York in the 70's?

Immigrants have come to New York for hundreds of years. Foreigners from all over have lived and continue to live there. How else would they get (or atleast know recipe) for a German desert. I'm sorry, but that was a silly question.

I thought it was Angel Food cake.
