Type of House
What type of house did Troy did her family live in?

I've always wondered about that. It looks huge. I live in SoCal so I'm not familiar with those kinds of houses.
If you love and support Michael Jackson 100%, copy & paste this into your signature. We love MJ!
I think it's a brownstone. There are a lot of them in brooklyn. Often the houses are so big you can rent out your top floor, as the family was doing in the movie.
Why does Andrew get to get up? If he get's up we'll all get up! It'll be anarchy!
Yes, it is a brownstone. I live in the south and we have very few of them here too. My college roommate was from Brooklyn and she grew up in a brownstone. Her mother rented out the bottom level. Years later she sold it for a mint too.

we call them townhouses here in new england.
I think townhouses are different from brownstones. Brownstones are often stone based with a stoop where as a townhouse isn't always that. My fiancee grew up in a brownstone and we're probably going to get one.
shareBrownstone refers to the color of sandstone often used in building Brooklyn rowhouses. Here in Boston granite, especially Roxbury puddingstone granite; is the dominant material. Spike Lee grew up in Fort Green before gentrification. The white musician living in the step-down is very typical of the kind of white guy who would live in a black neighborhood in the 70's. That little touch of accuracy is one of the things that makes this movie special. I am the same age as Spike Lee.
