Vic...PTSD

I believe that the Vic character suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder. When the Carmichael's electricity was turned off for non-payment and Woody was telling Vic and his girlfriend that they didn't have lights either. Vic freaked out, saying that he couldn't sleep or do anything without his lights and also stated that he paid much "I think I paid FAR too DAMN much!"

A lot of soliders suffered from this after returning from Vietnam and I think in Vic's case he had a fear of darkness, maybe as a result from being out in the bush on watch.

IMO this is one of the best period films made.

When I first saw this when I was younger I'd thought about it. But it really didn't dawn on me until I saw it today when he speaks of "Having to much shrapnel in my back" and that he was scared to have water on his back, of course the lights as you mentioned, and the fact that he mentioned a disability. Then I thought about the time period, and the slight army looking green hat and pants he always seemed to wear. So I think you're definitely right!
